Last September, the Allegheny County Airport Authority announced a $1.1 billion renovation to Pittsburgh International Airport. The Authority is now searching for an architectural and engineering design firm to spearhead the project.

Between 2019 and 2023, the authority plans to build a new terminal, reduce the number of gates from 75 to 51 and create a new building for ticketing and security. The redesign will focus on sustainability and making the airport tech-forward.

"It's an aggressive timeline, we know that," Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said. "We're hoping to stick to it and, for right now, we're on schedule."

Cassotis said she's open to working with a local or out-of-town firm, and will choose the one that best fits the authority's design plan.

"This has to be done on budget and its got to be done in conjunction with the vision and the mission we've set for the project," she said. "Which is to represent the region and to be operationally efficient, cost effective and to look good."

Interested teams must submit a statement of qualification by the third week of February
