90.5 WESA hosted a series of forums on topics related to elementary and secondary education in Western Pennsylvania in September, 2018.

The four events were free and open to the public, and were generously supported by The Grable Foundation.

Sep. 4, 2018: Schools & Immigration
What are the needs of immigrant and refugee students in Western PA? What challenges do their families face? What is a school's responsibility in regard to educating immigrant students? How can schools better support immigrant students?

90.5 WESA Seeks Production Intern

The Confluence production team is looking for a currently-enrolled undergraduate or graduate student  intern interested in learning to produce its new hour-long daily news program.

May 26, 2017; PITTSBURGH, PA— Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting (including 90.5 WESA and 91.3 WYEP, as well as The Allegheny Front) has had an award-winning season, with recognition from the Pennsylvania Associated Press, Pittsburgh Black Media Federation Robert L. Vann Awards and culminating last evening with awards at the Pennsylvania Press Club Golden Quills Awards.

Update: CPB Funding

I promised to keep you informed on the status of Federal funding for Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting, and there is some good news to share.

 On May 5, the President signed the $1-trillion-dollar compromise appropriations bill that averted a government shutdown through September... and secures our Federal funding--and that of the entire CPB-funded public media system--at current levels until September 30, 2019.

90.5 WESA and The Incline will present a Mayoral forum at 7pm on May 9, 2017, featuring Mayor Bill Peduto and primary challengers, Rev. John Welch and City Council member Darlene Harris. It will be moderated by WESA's Mark Nootbaar and The Incline's Sarah Anne Hughes, and will be broadcast live on 90.5 WESA and wesa.fm.

Maria Gabriel Scapellato To Join 90.5 WESA

JAN. 23, 2017 - PITTSBURGH, PA:  John Sutton, newly-appointed General Manager of 90.5 WESA, Pittsburgh’s NPR News Station, today announced that veteran journalist and radio host Maria Gabriel Scapellato will join the staff as Morning Edition Host starting in late March.
