What To Expect At This Year's Three Rivers Regatta

More than 500,000 people attend the 4th of July extravaganza every year, flooding the banks of the Allegheny River, Point State Park and the North Shore river-walk for the annual Three Rivers Regatta.

This year should be no different.

The powerboat championships, rock n’ roll and the “Anything That Floats” boat race are returning, but the 2013 Regatta Board has added some new features for this year’s celebration.

Gary Knell is the President and CEO of NPR which remains unique among news organizations. While a number of large media outfits have shuttered their foreign bureaus NPR has reporters throughout the world. However, public radio is also at a crossroads as some of its long time shows like Talk of the Nation comes to an end and Car Talk no longer produces new shows.

What will the future of NPR look like and can it stay relevant in the changing media landscape? Also, how is NPR cultivating new talent to reflect and appeal to a new generation of public radio listeners? Mr. Knell is in Pittsburgh to speak at the Americans for the Arts convention.

Pittsburgh Attracts Art Leaders with National Convention

The city of steel is becoming the city of art this week as 1,000 art leaders from across the country gather to discuss issues affecting artists, art-based development, arts organizations and creative industries.

Pittsburgh is hosting the Americans for the Arts (AFTA) Annual Convention June 14-16.

The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council will coordinate all of the convention’s performances and “ARTVenture” tours.

Council CEO Mitch Swain said AFTA was attracted to Pittsburgh because of its diverse art scene, especially with its cultural districts.

Fox News "Mole" Emerges with Book

Joe Muto is the Fox News "mole" that leaked videos to Gawker.

After graduating from Notre Dame, Joe Muto moved to New York in search of a media position.  He ended up with the Fox News Company, eventually becoming a producer for the top-rated show,The O’Reilly Factor.  After eight years he decided he wanted to search for another position.  He was, after all, a liberal at heart and he noted that since the Obama administration, Fox News was becoming progressively more conservative and far less “fair and balanced.”  Muto approached Gawker as a possible employer after leaving Fox, but was instead encouraged to begin writing for Gawker while still an employee at Fox.  He was to be the liberal inside the right-wing media group.

Charges Against Nude 'Pope Girl' Dropped

The indecent exposure charges against two Carnegie Mellon University students have been dropped in exchange for 80 hours of community service apiece over the next 4 months.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for today for 19 year old Katherine O'Connor and 22 year old Robb Godshaw, but an agreement was reached among the District Attorney's office, CMU and the students.
