Ivan Illich

Jacki Lyden notes the death of sociologist Ivan Illich at age 76. Illich was a one-time priest who quit out of frustration with the bureaucracy. He became a strong opponent of institutionalized religion and learning, and was perhaps best known for his authorship of Deschooling Society, in 1971.
