In early 2007, singer and songwriter Daniel Ingala began writing and recording catchy, synth-driven pop music in his New York City apartment. He soon took on the moniker Plushgun, and uploaded his first song, "Just Impolite," to his MySpace page. The track quickly found an online audience, drawing more than a half-million page visits and thousands of new fans.
Ingala has since turned Plushgun into a proper band with three other musicians. A full-length debut album will be released by the New York-based foursome at the start of next year, but until then, they've unveiled a four-song, self-titled EP.
The release fittingly begins with "Just Impolite," showcasing Plushgun's penchant for electro-pop and introspective narratives. "Are you frightened by perfection / Is this who you are, not who you want to be," Ingala sings, prompting a moment of self-reflection. Following "Just Polite" is the lush and yearning love song "14 Candles," but the tempo and mood picks up for the remaining two tracks, with dance beats that are impossible to deny. At only four songs, Plushgun's EP may be short, but it's definitely sweet enough to merit repeated listens until the full-length album drops.
