Pennsylvania residents may know Range Resources from news reports, but it is just as likely that they have learned about the company through its radio and television ad campaigns that feature personal, first-hand accounts of people who have benefited from gas drilling.
Two years ago, Marcellus Shale and fracking were novel terms to Pennsylvanians. Now they are nearly household words. And the words are being used more and more on electronic, print and billboard advertisements.
And both sides are using the ads. Craig and Julie Sautner of Susquehanna County have not been able to drink their water for three years. State regulators agreed that drilling by Cabot Oil and Gas was at fault. The Sautners decided to launch their own ad campaign, paying for an anti-gas drilling billboard in Susquehanna County.
