Igloo has Date With Wrecking Ball

A federal appeals court has refused Preservation Pittsburgh's request to consider its appeal to stop the demolition of the Civic Arena. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the request to stop the demolition in part because it believed the appeal was not likely to succeed.

"We're pleased with the results and we'll be moving forward according to our schedule," said Sports and Exhibition Authority Executive Director Mary Conturo. Conturo felt the authority made a strong argument before the judge.

Preservation Pittsburgh was working to save and reuse the 50-year-old building. The SEA plans to redevelop the site.

Conturo said crews will begin dismantling the silver dome Monday morning.
