Smooth, soulful singer Mayra Andrade is of Cape Verdean origin — but her life so far has taken her around the world. Born in Cuba, she grew up in Senegal, Angola and Germany (while her stepfather was an ambassador), and she now makes her home in France.
In the past, Andrade's music has reflected this wandering, from shades of French chanson to a pronounced Portuguese lilt, buoyed by African rhythms. But in a laid-back globalFEST set, she emphasized silky smoothness and Brazilian-inflected jazz.
