Brewster Seeks Full Term

With the committee charged with drawing new Pennsylvania legislative districts mired in debate, State Senator Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) has decided to launch a campaign to hold on to his seat.

Brewster was first elected to represent the 45th district in a special election on November 2, 2010 when Sean Logan left the legislature to take a post with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. At the time he ran against Republican Paul Olijar and Libertarian Len Young.

In the first set of maps approved by the reapportionment committee, the 45th senatorial district was moved to the other side of the state. The map was rejected by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and it now appears that the old districts will remain in place for the 2012 election.

"There is a tremendous amount of work that still needs to be done in the areas of job creation, education, environmental protection, transportation and community revitalization," said Brewster in announcing his candidacy.

Brewster was no stranger to politics when he ran for the unfinished term. Brewster served as Mayor of McKeesport from 2004 to 2010 and on the McKeesport City Council from 1995 to 2004.
