Add another Pittsburgh school to the list of those receiving bomb threats. Along with the University of Pittsburgh with almost 80 bomb threats this year and Point Park University getting its second bomb threat Monday night, the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) received a bomb threat on Wednesday.
CCAC spokesman David Hoovler says the threat, which was emailed in to a local television station, wasn't too specific.
"It identified itself as a bomb threat, and just stated that [Thursday and Friday] were being targeted," said Hoovler.
Regardless of the threat's vagueness, CCAC is taking the threat as genuine. Anyone entering any CCAC building will be required to show a photo ID and allow security to open and search any backpacks or large bags.
Even though there has only been one bomb threat made, Hoovler feels CCAC is justified in searching through people's bags as long as it keeps students and staff safe.
"We want to do what we need to do to ensure the safety of the people who are coming on our campuses," said Hoovler. "[It] seems like a reasonable precaution to take."
After the threats, facilities on all four campuses—Allegheny, Boyce, North, and South, were either swept by security personnel, bomb-sniffing dogs or a combination of both.
