Mountain Bike Festival Returns

Trail rides at three different parks and a pig roast highlight this weekend's 7th annual Allegheny County Mountain Bike Festival.

Hartwood Acres Park will be the site of the first of the three rides on Friday, July 13th beginning at 6:00 PM between the amphitheater and the school. The second will start at Boyce Park's soccer field at noon and the third at Parish Hill Barn in North Park on Sunday. After the final ride on Sunday, there will be a free pig roast and beer from Penn Pilsner.

Mike Connors, festival coordinator, said the mountain bike rides are not races, and are free of charge, too.

"All we're really doing is going for a ride, but we're going to break up into several groups at a lot of different paces," Connors said. "We'll ride in less difficult or more difficult spots depending on the group."

Connors said even though the courses and rides vary in difficulty, bikers should at least have some experience with mountain bikes. The festival is an event of the Pittsburgh Trails and Advocacy Group, Pittsburgh Off-Road Cyclists, and the Allegheny County Parks Department.
