I had to catch my breath when I first stepped onto the SXSW grounds. The Austin, Texas festival features tens of thousands of bands, films, speaking events and more. The sheer amount of activities can get overwhelming.
Our colleague Stephen Thompson accurately described SXSW as "several festivals within a festival" — and co-host Felix Contreras and I have been focusing on the Latin music festival here. Even that is a lot to take in as you have new discoveries, musicians you've heard a buzz about but want to check out live, and the big players like Cafe Tacvba, Molotov, Bajofondo.
Felix and I are taking a quick break from the tiresome work of watching one amazing band after another to talk about what acts we saw that simply blew our minds. We're joined by Michael Crockett, host of the weekly Latin music program Horizontes at KUT.
And as usual, we want to hear from you, our listeners. If you're here at SXSW tell us: What are your favorite new discoveries? And if you couldn't make it, who do you wish you'd had the chance to see?
