Shemekia Copeland On Mountain Stage

Shemekia Copeland makes her fourth appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live before a sold-out audience at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. Dubbed "The New Queen of the Blues" by Koko Taylor's daughter, Copeland made her first appearance at the Cotton Club when she was only 8 years old. By age 15, she was opening shows for her father's band. In 1998, at 19, she released her first album, Turn the Heat Up. Since then, she released the Grammy-nominated Wickedin 2000, Talking to Strangers in 2002, The Soul Truth in 2005 and Never Going Back in 2009.

She's joined here by her own band, which includes Arthur Neilson on lead guitar, Willie Scandlyn on rhythm, Kevin Jenkins on bass and Morris Roberts on drums. Copeland's latest record, 33 1/3 (her age at the time of its release), was produced by Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers.
