Buddy Guy has appeared on Mountain Stage many times over the years, but this set from May 2001 is particularly special. The majority of the set is taken from his back-to-basics album Sweat Tea, which finds the living legend taking a step back from the crossover-friendly blues rock material from the 90's. It begins with Guy playing the opening track from Sweat Tea, the dark, intimate, solo-acoustic number "Done Got Old." Fans of the electric guitar work the Buddy Guy is know for will not be disappointed – his trademark polka dot Stratocaster comes out – and stays out – beginning with his second song, "Baby Please Don't Leave." An undisputed master of the loud, brash style of electric playing known as the Chicago Blues, Guy, along with the late Freddy King are credited with all but creating the singing, single-string guitar sound that formed the foundation rock and roll, prompting Eric Clapton to declare "Buddy Guy is by far and without a doubt the best guitar player alive."
