The Ohio husband and wife at the heart of Over the Rhine have called their music "post-nuclear, pseudo-alternative, folk-tinged art-pop." And, though they formed as a traditional rock band at the dawn of the '90s, Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist have transformed their music into a smoky, confessional style of Americana that would later be embraced by coed roots groups like The Civil Wars and The Head and the Heart.
Over the Rhine has established a loyal international fan base, and in 2007 issued its first career retrospective, Discount Fireworks. Its new double album Meet Me at the Edge of the World, produced by Joe Henry, was inspired by Detweiler and Bergquist's move from urban Cincinnati to rural Southern Ohio.
