Susan Werner makes her 8th appearance on Mountain Stage, bringing songs from her latest album, Hayseed. Warner's family has been farming for four generations, and Hayseed draws on that tradition. The album focuses on agriculture, rural America, locavores, food safety and "the comic potential of herbicides."
Blessed with a wide-ranging talent that allows her to cross genres with ease, Werner has been influenced by an equally eclectic mix of artists — Judy Collins, Thelonious Monk, Keb' Mo' and Sting.
Werner earned a voice degree in her native Iowa and an opera degree from Temple University before deciding to take her career in a different direction. The turning point came thanks to a performance by Texas folk singer Nanci Griffith. Werner is backed by the Mountain Stage band, featuring Steve Hill on bass, Ammed Solomon on drums, guitarist Michael Lipton and singers Ron Sowell and Julie Adams.
