Mountain Stage
Sam Amidon.

Sam Amidon makes his first visit to Mountain Stage, recorded live on the grounds of West Virginia's state capitol. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Amidon made a name for himself in his teens as a fiddler, issuing five albums with a band he called Popcorn Behavior. In the years since then, he has stretched comfortably from old-time music into styles ranging from free jazz to alt-folk, even taking a place in New York indie rock bands Stars Like Fleas and Doveman.

Amidon's latest release, Lily-O, features his trademark reimagining of traditional folk tunes. He recorded the album in Iceland alongside jazz guitarist Bill Frisell and others. He's backed in his freewheeling Mountain Stage set by the show's house band, under the direction of Ron Sowell.
