Dar Williams plays Mountain Stage, recorded live at Charleston, W.Va.'s Culture Center Theater. Dar Williams has remained a fixture within the folk scene and beyond for nearly two decades, thanks in no small part to her lovely soprano voice and unique songs that are often beautiful, idiosyncratic and tart at the same time.
Before she began writing and performing full-time, Williams directed plays and served as stage manager for the Opera Company of Boston. In 1998, she teamed up with Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell for an album and tour under the moniker Cry Cry Cry. Her 2008 album Promised Land featured collaborations with The Jayhawks co-founder Gary Louris and Rob Hyman of The Hooters.
Williams' latest album, Emerald, is a handmade, self-released affair, featuring contributions from Richard Thompson, Jim Lauderdale, Suzy and Lucy Roche and Jill Sobule — the last of whom co-wrote the up-tempo "FM Radio" with Williams and performs alongside her during this set.
