In the liner notes of her latest album, Ivy Tripp, Katie Crutchfield — better known as the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist behind Waxahatchee— has a photo of none other than Dolly Parton. Crutchfield laughed when KEXP DJ Stevie Zoom asked her about it. "I have Dolly everywhere I go," she said with a smile.
Like Parton, the Alabama-born Crutchfield transcends musical styles — from the harmony-filled rock of "Under A Rock" to the sweet synth lines of "La Loose" — while tying them all together with a distinctive Southern drawl. She may not have her own Dollywood-style amusement park, but Waxahatchee's music is a thrilling destination of its own. Here, she performs "La Loose" live in the KEXP studio.
