Pokey LaFarge makes his second visit to Mountain Stage, recorded live at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex in Charleston. The St. Louis singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist incorporates elements of early jazz, ragtime, country blues and Western swing into his own original brand of Americana. (As he puts it, "It's not retro music — it's American music that never died.") Longtime admirer Jack White enlisted LaFarge as opening act for his 2012 North American tour and added him to the Third Man Records roster; Third Man released LaFarge's 2011 album Chittlin' Cookin' Time In Cheatham Countyand 2013's Pokey LaFarge.
Last year, LaFarge performed on five continents, including tours in India, Australia and New Zealand, and logged extensive road work in the U.S., Canada, England, Ireland and the Netherlands. His most recent release, Something In The Water, is LaFarge's seventh album; it marks his debut on the storied Rounder Records label. LaFarge is backed here by his impressive six-piece road band, including bassist Joey Glynn, multi-instrumentalist Ryan Koenig and trumpeter TJ Muller.
