Through swaths of dreamy, atmospheric psych-rock, the Tel Aviv band Vaadat Charigim explores the idea of inactivity on its latest album, Sinking As A Stone. That title is a loose translation from Hebrew; more precisely interpreted, it should read something along the lines of The Boredom Sinks In.
Fortunately, the songs themselves avoid tedium through propulsive rhythm and bass, reverb-driven guitars and Yuval Haring's gloomy vocals. The band's live performances are moody but not monotonous, and pounding rather than ponderous. In a recent studio performance at KEXP, Vaadat Charigim chased away the doldrums with an epic live set that was anything but boring.
