Mountain Stage
John Mark Nelson.

John Mark Nelson makes his first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live in Cook County, Minn., on the north shore of Lake Superior. Even though he's only in his early 20s, the Twin Cities singer-songwriter's name has already begun to be mentioned alongside local heavyweights ranging from The Jayhawks and Trampled By Turtles to Low and Dan Wilson. Last fall, Mountain Stage's Joni Deutsch picked Nelson's song "Dream Last Night" for NPR Music's Heavy Rotation, in which she lauded the singer for his ability to reference both Katy Perry and Steve Cropper in a single melody.

Nelson appears here on the scenic North Shore of his home state alongside his road band, which features Kara Laudon on keys, guitarist Steve Bosmans, Josh Fink on bass and drummer Nate Babbs.
