Liz Vice makes her first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va.
Born the middle of five children and raised by a single mother, Vice grew up in Oregon with dreams of becoming a filmmaker. She faced an unthinkable plot twist at 15, though, when she was diagnosed with a disease that caused her kidneys to fail. After receiving a much-needed transplant, Vice found a new lease on life and began to pursue filmmaking. She also spent more time singing at her church in Portland, Ore., which became a life-changing experience.
A buzz began to build around her live performances, and before long Vice was singing full-time. She's shared the stage with Cody Chesnutt and St. Paul & The Broken Bones, earned a spot at the prestigious Blues Fest and, now, received an international release for her album There's A Light. She opens her Mountain Stage set with a haunting cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," backed by drummer Yvonne Araujo and Jackie Miclau on piano.
