Brett Dennen.

In the early 2000s, Northern California native Brett Dennen was a camp counselor in the Sierra Nevadas who played guitar, wrote songs and performed fireside. With a self-made album, Dennen began playing coffee shops along the West Coast and developed a strong following. He was soon championed by KCRW DJ Chris Douridas, who in 2004 described the singer as "the best unsigned artist of the year."

On 2008's Hope For The Hopeless, Dennen was joined by Femi Kuti, Natalie Merchant and Jason Mraz. Following 2011's Loverboy, 2013's Smoke & Mirrors marked a return to Dennen's folk and acoustic roots. His new album is titled Por Favor. Brett Dennen is backed here by his own band, which features Jonathan Hansen on keys, bassist Daniel Rhine, drummer Jonathan Radford and Richard Hinman on lead guitar.
