Watch Dori Freeman Live On Folk Alley

Rising country-folk singer-songwriter Dori Freeman grew up surrounded by music and art in a small Appalachian town near the Virginia-North Carolina border — an area known for old-time and traditional music. Her grandfather is a musician and pencil artist, while her father plays fiddle, mandolin and guitar. Freeman started playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager.

In 2014, she reached out to Teddy Thompson via social media (she sent him a video of her covering one of his songs). They began a friendship that led to Thompson producing Freeman's self-titled debut album, released in February.

This May, Freeman traveled north to the Adirondack Mountains for a Folk Alley Session taping at Beehive Productions Studio in Saranac Lake, N.Y. Here, she performs "Fine Fine Fine" in a simpler, more stripped-down version from the '60s girl-group arrangement you'll hear on the album. Freeman describes it as a song "about a relationship when you feel it start to fall apart."
