Watch Gallant And Jhené Aiko's Inflammatory Video For 'Skipping Stones'

When we featured Gallant's "Skipping Stones," the rising R&B singer's duet with professional guest vocalist Jhené Aiko, on the All Songs Considered SXSW preview back in March, we knew we'd found a new team favorite. A First Listen of his new album Ology soon followed (listen to it here), at which point it was obvious that we were dealing with a star in the making.

You wouldn't know that, though, from his treatment in the new video for "Skipping Stones." The low-lit short, directed by American Millennial, begins with the singer lying unconscious in the backseat of a tan sedan, his wrists duct-taped while Aiko sits behind the wheel. The scene is reminiscent of Kanye West's video for "Flashing Lights," which also featured a reversal of the patriarchal power dynamic that didn't turn out so well for the star. Let's hope life doesn't imitate this art anytime soon.
