Essential Pittsburgh Special: 7M Students are Chronic "No Shows"

Essential Pittsburgh, 90.5 WESA’s daily magazine will air a special program on Wednesday, August 28th at Noon as part of the station's Life of Learning initiative. The show will devote an hour to chronic absenteeism and the importance of school attendance. We'll discuss the impact on the student's success in school and adult life. What are the contributing factors, how does school attendance impact the community and what's being done to help students want to go to school. 

90.5 WESA Honors the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

On Aug. 28, 1963 more than 200,000 people gathered in the Washington, D.C. Mall to rally for civic and economic equality for African Americans. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

90.5 WESA and NPR celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic event with special coverage of the events on Wednesday, Aug. 28 during Morning Edition, on the Mall from Here & Now from 1 to 3 pm, including an address by the President scheduled for 3 p.m. Fresh Air will be heard at 10 pm.

Special Labor Day Programming

The Essential Pittsburgh team will be taking a break for the Labor Day holiday, so 90.5 WESA invites you to listen to the one-hour special "Stressed Out Students," examining the level of stress experienced by many secondary school students in America.
