Premiering on the 24th, a new program will join the 90.5 WESA line up. “Nanograms” is a podcast created from the mind of Morning Editionhost Josh Raulerson.  The show looks at technology and its impact on culture, or, as the show’s tag line reads “brief messages from the very near future.”

“The idea being to take big complicated topics generally relating to technology in some way and the sort of intersection of technology and culture and take some particular angle to that subject and then break it up into a series of shorter pieces,” Raulerson said.

The show’s first season, “Borg in the USA,” will cover the idea that mobile devices have become so integrated into the day-to-day life of people these days that they are a new kind of human. The season will follow everything from cellphones to pacemakers and how they’ve almost become a body part of the modern man.

“If you were an alien from space and you never observed humans before, you could easily be led to believe that this [mobile devices] is part of the anatomy,” Raulerson said on the topic.

As to Nanograms’ origins, Raulerson said the idea for the podcast sprung from his academic life, where he studied, “futurist discourse and science fiction.” The show is also set to host a live panel discussion on September 24th, an event that sold out within 24 hours of it being announced, according to the Nanograms website.
