The reopening of the iconic fountain, the refurbished Point State Park and the annual Three Rivers Arts Festival are converging in Pittsburgh today.
The ten day arts festival usually attracts about 200,000 people each year and has featured more than 12,000 artists through the years.
Veronica Corpuz, director of Festival Management and Special Projects for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, said the festival is for everyone.
“Whether you’re interested in the historical nature of Point State Park or bicycling and the bike trail system of our region, this is an opportunity for newcomers and arts lovers alike to, kind of, co-mingle in a beautiful outdoor setting and experience and share in meaningful, artful experiences,” Corpuz said.
The Three Rivers Arts Festival features a concert by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and the beginning of several light installations plus many other musical and artistic acts throughout the cultural district, along with other familiar features.
“Our artist market will feature over 300 artists; it also features an expanded footprint along Penn Avenue,” said Corpuz.
She said the festival is a great way to bring the public together.
“These 10 days are about connecting the community and connecting the community to the arts,” Corpuz said.
The Three Rivers Arts Festival was founded in 1960 by the Women’s Committee of the Carnegie Museum of Art.
The festival runs June 7-16 and is free and open to the public.
