90.5 WESA Weekend Watch 6/22 & 6/23

This Saturday the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra presents a truly cinematic performance. Pixar in Concert features music from the beloved movie studio, from "Toy Story" to "Up" and including their latest release, "Brave." The movie scores will be performed live, accompanied by movie clips projected on an overhead screen. Pixar in Concert will run Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Heinz Hall downtown.

 
Pittsburgh’s World Refugee Day celebration will be held this Saturday at the Community College of Allegheny County. This free event is open to the public and will feature music, stories, dance, and original art from the local refugee communities in the Pittsburgh area. Bhutanese, Bhurmese, and Middle Eastern foods will also be served. Join the celebration his Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the CCAC campus on the North Side.

 

Get your history fix at this year’s Civil War Day. Featuring encampment stations, a marketplace, and speaker Jonathan Neu on “Defining Manhood in the Grand Army of the Republic,” the annual remembrance provides an in depth look at one of the country’s darkest hours. Live music will be performed by the Pittsburgh Historic Music Society. Events run throughout Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall in Carnegie, PA.

 

Come celebrate the 30thbirthday of the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Fun for all ages will run throughout the day. Entertainment includes live music, Hoop Jam with Stephanie Zito of Spinster Hoops, and a parade through the museum with the May Day Marching Band. The event runs throughout the day this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Children’s Museum on the North Side.

 
The Pittsburgh Playwrights Theater Company presents “Radio Golf,” a play by August Wilson. This is the final play in Wilson’s ten-play Pittsburgh Century cycle, which documents the African American experience decade by decade. Set in the 1990s, the play features the past confronting the future as Harmond Wilks attempts to redevelop the Hill District and become the first black mayor of Pittsburgh. Performances run from Wednesdays to Sundays through the end of the month, but you can catch the show this weekend on Saturday at 8 p.m. or on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre on Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.
