This Sunday, come out and honor the work of over 1,500 makers at the Knit the Bridge Art Party. Under the direction of artist Amanda Gross, families, friends, and volunteers came together from across Allegheny County to organize the yarn bombing of the Andy Warhol Bridge. Pittsburghers can come to experience the art project firsthand at the event. The event will be fully accessible, with wheelchair accommodations, ASL interpreters, and sighted guides for the blind or visually impaired that will allow visitors to explore the bridge through touch. Celebrate the yarn bombing of the Andy Warhol Bridge this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the bridge.
Bloomfield’s 12th annual Little Italy Days is this weekend. The streets and sidewalks of Liberty Avenue come alive with Italian music, food booths, and sidewalk sales. The wide variety of entertainment in the festival will be family friendly, with plenty of activities for the kids. Highlights for the weekend include a bocce tournament and the Jersey Four, a tribute to Franki Valli and the Four Seasons. Bloomfield’s Little Italy Days runs throughout the weekend, with events on Saturday occurring from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and events on Sunday occurring from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. along Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield.
Front Porch Theatricals and Carrnivale Theatrics presents a production of "In the Heights." The Pittsburgh premiere of the Tony-winning Broadway musical focuses on a community of people living in Washington Heights, New York. The show is rooted in Hispanic culture, blending Bolero, rap, and pop music with the Broadway style to produce a unique theater experience. "In the Heights" premieres this weekend, with shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday and a show at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the New Hazlett Theatre on the North Side. Look for shows to continue next weekend until Sept. 1.
This weekend, African Arts in the Park takes over Point State Park. The festival will bring a variety of artists and styles together to present a diverse look at African culture. Participants will be able to listen to live stage music, walk through the vendor marketplace, learn from craft and culture demonstration booths, or take part in an interactive poetry or spoken word workshop. The African Arts in the Park festival runs this weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days at Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh.
