Buccos and Game 5 - The Legacy of Buctober

Carmen Gentile, a seasoned war reporter for USA Today, usually finds himself spending summers in Afghanistan and reporting from embattled parts of the Middle East. But the Pittsburgh native now finds himself on the front lines of another national sensation: The Pirates Post-Season.

“I have gotten more reaction to this story, positive and negative, than any other piece I have written on Afghanistan,” says Gentile.

As we approach game five which will air tonight at 8pm on TBS, the city is a flutter with a mixture of nervousness and elation at the Pirates’ current position. Before the Steel Curtain and Steeler Nation took over in the 1970’s, Pittsburgh was a baseball town. However, after twenty long losing seasons, perhaps it is making a resurgence.

Tonight is a do-or-die kind of game and everyone is anxious to see if rookie-phenom Gerrit Cole and the rest of the Pirates lineup can carry the team to victory.

“A lot of people are looking at this team and loving the rags to riches Cinderella story of it," says Gentile "And as fans, there’s a lot to be thankful for."
