Local Film Work To Be Showcased Outdoors in Downtown Pittsburgh

We’ve all heard about, and many have seen the blockbuster films filmed in Pittsburgh – be it the "The Dark Knight Rises" or "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."

On Saturday some smaller filmmakers will have their work shown during an open-air film night downtown. It’s a partnership between Future Tenant and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and will feature a variety of films ranging from two minutes in length to an hour and 15 minutes.

“They run the gamut from a photo documentary that is set to music to a video mash-up, there’s also a situational comedy, a drama/romance, a suspense movie, so it really is a little bit of something for everyone,” said PDP spokeswoman Leigh White.

The goal is to highlight some of the region’s up-and-coming cinematic writers and directors. The filmmakers are all from the region, and some will be in attendance to talk about their film and answer audience questions.

“This is really supporting art, local art, it’s supporting local artists and filmmakers,” White said, “and I think they’re going to be really unique films and a great opportunity. It’ll feel a little bit different than seeing your average Hollywood blockbuster in Schenley Park."

The Down Film Night is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Exchange Way and Liberty Avenue. If you want to arrive early to nab the perfect spot, several of the city’s food trucks will be on hand with their offerings prior to the screenings.
