Zombies are coming to the Kelly Strayhorn stage in an opera!Night of the Living Dead the opera is the brain child of director Stephen Catanzarite.
He began the process of making an opera out of the cult classic when Bill Hinzman, who played cemetery zombie number 1, asked him about putting together a musical version of the movie.
Hinzman passed away last year but his wife and daughter will be attending the opera for the opening show on Halloween night.
In changing the film to an opera, zombies emerged as developed characters, which Catanzarite hopes will make the audience realize that, "Zombies are people too."
Night of the Living Dead the Opera runs Oct. 31 through Nov. 3 at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater.
