Blue Star Art & Cowboy Dance Halls in San Antonio

Home to the Alamo and the River Walk, San Antonio, Texas combines a rich history and distinct architecture to create a modern and exciting cultural experience.

Travel contributor Elaine Labalme shares her favorites about the southern city and insists that visitors to the Lone Star State must visit San Antonio. 

The San Antonio Riverwalk- This pathway one story below the main city level is surrounded by cafes and shopping centers, and even features the opportunity to travel by boat!

The Alamo - Situated in downtown San Antonio, Labalme says the experience is a departure from the usual tourist visit and “very sensibly done.” Dive into the history of the structure and enjoy the Texan artifacts.

San Antonio Museum of Art - Currently the museumfeatures a Diego Rivera exhibit as well as a special “Andy Warhol and sports figures” display.

Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum - This newer museum showcases modern art in the King William neighborhood.

Museum Reach - While on the Riverwalk, be sure to travel down this 1.5 mile trail complete with both visual and oral exhibits.

Mi Tierra Restaurant - Open 24/7, be sure to check out the lively mariachi bands and ‘round the clock drinks and dining. Also be sure to grab a pastry from the huge bakery at the front of the restaurant.

Hotel Havana - Thisboutique hotel is what Labalmes describes as “minimalist shabby chic” and very comfortable.

Esquire Tavern - As one of the “hidden gems” of San Antonio, this is the oldest bar in the city and features the longest bar in the state.

Cowboy’s Dancehall - Ride the mechanical bull!

Pearl Brewery Complex- Finish off your day with some delicious eats at this former brewery.
