Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of the summer season. In Pittsburgh, no matter where you go there will be festivals a plenty, celebrating everything from ice cream to the arts.
Business contributor Rebecca Harris looked at the economic impact of these festivals citywide, especially when it comes to the diversity of events.
“Everything from huge outdoor concerts, to massive fairs, to small outdoor events, to cinema in the parks, to neighborhood festivals. There's really just about something for everybody."
According to Harris, some of the largest and most popular festival highlights for Pittsburgh this summer include:
The 55th Annual Three Rivers Arts Festival by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and Dollar Bank
- June 6-15 in Point State Park and the surrounding downtown area
- It's a mixture of food, art, and music
- The Festival is part of Pride Week (June 6-15) in Downtown Pittsburgh between 6th Street & 10th Street
- It is a time to celebrate the region's LGBTQ communities
The Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival
- June 20-22 in the heart of Pittsburgh's Cultural District
- Harris says it's an explosion of Jazz and an amazing sight that she highly recommends
- Begins at 2 p.m. June 28 at Schenley Plaza
- The event will feature local teen bands as well as four bands in the evening
The EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta and Official July 4th Celebration
- July 2-4 in Downtown Pittsburgh around Point State Park and the North Shore
- Boats, Concerts, Fireworks and much more
