Backstage Access, Without the Passes

A new collaboration plans to take the audience behind the scenes at the 56th annual Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival.

The new video series pairs the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust with Yellow Couch Studio for this year's theme, “Unseen/Unheard.”

Studio owner and producer Steven Foxbury said he hopes Yellow Couch Sessions Live! will create a cozy environment conducive to inspiring great performances.

“We’re hoping to highlight some of the national performers and regional performers in a very intimate and stripped down fashion,” said Veronica Corpuz, director of festival management for the cultural trust. “So, by capturing a small performances or quick interview, we’re providing greater content for our audiences and helping to show how the art makes the arts festival what it is.”

Copruz said the trust is hoping to connect the community with main stage artists.

“And hopefully showing ... the art and the intimacy of these performances. (It) adds another dimension for audiences who might not be able to make the trip to Pittsburgh and they can see a glimpse of it on our website,” Corpuz said.

Reels should be uploaded to Yellow Couch's website and the https://vimeo.com/culturaltrust">cultural trust's vimeo following the concerts so audiences can experience these behind-the-scenes extras when they get home.

Corpuz said she hopes the partnership opens doors for performers.

“For some of the artists who are maybe emerging and not quite as well known here in the Pittsburgh region and beyond, these recordings will actually help them further their work and spreading their music to new audiences,” she said.

These and future recordings will hopefully honor the hundreds of performers who've graced Pittsburgh's stages over the last 56 years, she said.

“This is really a step forward in the next 50 years," Corpuz said, "and hopefully the beginning of a really fantastic archive.”
