Halloween Weekend is Finally Here: Social Club October 29

The build-up of anticipation of Halloween finally comes to a peak this weekend! Pittsburgh has a spider web of events to choose from for you holiday celebration.

Friday, October 30th is the Chills, Thrills, and Gills party at the Pittsburgh Zoo at 8 PM. The Pittsburgh Zoo is partnering with the Scare House, so guests can get VIP RIP admission to the haunted house and its horrifying basement (if you dare). The zoo’s aquarium will host a DJ, and there will be snacks and a costume contest. The event is 21+.

Ghosts N’at Paranormal Adventures is also on Friday, October 30th at the Carnegie Library in Carnegie at 7 PM. The paranormal investigator organization, Ghosts N'at, will offer authentic ghosts stories, film footage of ghost sightings, and answer any ghostly questions. Reminder: The exit on Route 279 is closed, so take the back-road route.

The Lawrenceville card and gift store Wild Cardis hosting a Halloween Extravaganza and Anniversary Party on Friday, October 30th to celebrate their sixth year. This free event starts at 6 PM at the Wild Card store and includes raffles, cookies, a 10% discount, and a costume contest.

Friday, October 30th from 6-9 PM is the Pittsburgh Whiskey & Fine Spirits Festival at the Rivers Casino. The theme this year is “1920s”, so grab another costume! Whiskey is the main drink, but there will be an array of liquors as well. Rachel says there’s a ridiculous amount of alcohol at the event, so you’re bound to try something delicious.

Now that you have a million options for Friday plans, let’s move to All Hallows’ Eve- Saturday! GAPP Halloween Edition 2015 will be held at the James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy on Saturday, October 31st at 9 PM. GAAP stands for Grown Ass People Party. Gotta love it. The costume party will have a DJ and a great selection of beer and cocktails.

Wigle Whiskey is still celebrating Beer Week throughout this weekend. Alternative Whiskey Festival is at 6 PM on Friday October 30th at the Wigle Whiskey Distillery in the Strip District. Tickets include five Wigle spirit samplings, and the entire distillery will be open for the evening.

Sunday, November 1st is the Home Brewers Competition at Wigle Whiskey’s barrelhouse in the North Side. Rachel gives Josh some sage advice for  judging at the contest: “Don’t spit anything out, don’t make any weird faces, and pace yourself.”

Starting Friday, October 30th, Prime Stage Theatre is presenting The Crucible at the New Hazlett Theaterat 8 PM.  The Salem witch trials of 1692 will be brought to life on a thrust stage, which reaches out into the auditorium so audience members surround it on three sides. Additional show times are listed on the New Hazlett Theater website.

Happy Halloween! Have a spooky, costume-clad, and fun weekend!
