Find The City’s Arts & Cultural Events On New Arts Council Website
The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council is launching a website they hope will be the go-to source to find all arts and cultural events in the city.
Arts organizations can post gallery openings, theater and dance performances and other cultural events to the new site – Artsburgh. Users can scroll through the calendar or create a profile to distinguish what types of events are most important to them.
Dek Ingraham, technology project specialist for the arts council, said the goal is to get more people to these events.
“Sometimes people are afraid to try new arts experiences just because it can be intimidating and this we’re hoping will break down that intimidation factor. It’s friendly, it’s clean, it’s bright. People can find what they’re looking for more easily,” he said.
The idea for the aggregated calendar came from a local research group, Project Audience, funded by the Mellon Foundation. The ad hoc group found that people want tailored results to decide where they want to spend their time.
“So you don’t have to look at, you know, the monolithic list of everything that’s available. You can just find dance pieces that are happening in your neighborhood and it will remember those things for you,” he said.
The site launches Monday at artsburgh.org.
