Nearly two months after initially going on strike, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has cancelled events into next month.
In a blog post, the PSO announced Monday that more shows have been cancelled through Dec. 5. The strike started Sept. 30.
PSO officials said they are “hopeful to reach an agreement soon.”
Just last month, orchestra management and the musicians union agreed to let an independent expert asses the organization’s finances.
Management is seeking a 15-percent wage cut, plus pension concessions. They've argued that those changes are necessary to keep the symphony solvent in the face of more than $20 million in debt over the next five years.
The musicians' union has said management is overstating the orchestra's financial problems.
Elvis Costello also cancelled a Nov. 1 concertin solidarity with the musicians.
The striking orchestra members have worked to find alternative venues to hold their scheduled concerts.
