Transit Plan Proposed for East End

Pittsburgh's East End has seen its share of redevelopment in recent years, and now the Department of City Planning hopes to map out a transportation plan to get people to and from those new sites.

City Planning officials are slated to talk with residents and organizations Thursday about what new transportation infrastructure the area needs, to decide if they should adopt a "Transit Revitalization Improvement District" for East Liberty.

Pittsburgh's Principal Transportation Planner Patrick Roberts said the "TRID" would help focus investment into all kinds of transportation projects, from walking and biking paths to creating better linkages with the East Busway.

Roberts said now is a good time to map out transportation in the East End. "The growth that we're seeing in the neighborhood of East Liberty and the revitalization also comes with other problems," said Roberts. "We have a lot of development, we have congestion, and we also have a desire for more walkable, livable space, both for those that wish to live in the area and come from outside of the area."

If the TRID is adopted by the city, it will focus on revamping transportation in the area within a half-mile radius of the East Busway Station in East Liberty.
