PennDOT says most major road construction will be suspended for the holiday weekend as a concession to motorists, but long-term restrictions will remain in place on Route 28, Route 65 and Crosstown Boulevard.
Work will also continue on Route 50 in Bridgeville, where there will be just a single lane in each direction from 8:00 PM Friday through 8:00 PM Sunday near Great Southern Shopping Center, and also where Greentree Road intersects Route 50 in Heidelberg.
Looking beyond the weekend, Jim Struzzi, Press Officer for PennDOT's District 11, says bridge projects and those not requiring mild temperatures will go on. Work on Route 28 will continue through the winter months because there's a lot of excavation and wall building to do, but basic road re-surfacing usually wraps up by mid-October.
Struzzi says there are important projects underway throughout the region, including bridge work on I-79 in northern Allegheny County, fixing structurally deficient structures and ramps on Route 65 at the Marshall Avenue interchange, and work on the Parkway West at the Campbell's Run Road overpass.
As always, Struzzi urges people to be careful not to drink and drive as they celebrate the holiday.
