PennDOT Asks For Feedback

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has released a draft of its long-range transportation plan and is asking for public feedback.

“This is a plan that looks far into the future to help set the vision and direction for where we want our transportation system to go,” said PennDOT spokeswoman Erin Waters-Trasatt. “So it goes beyond a list of projects or future enhancements. It looks at things like where we want to go as a whole.”

The draft looks at every type of transportation in the Keystone state including cars, trucks, bikes, feet and plane, and proposes ways PennDOT plans to improve them through the year 2040, but does not highlight many specifics.

Inspiration for the plan came after PennDOT asked for public feedback on what improvements Pennsylvanians wanted to see.

“The top priorities of the public identified through that [were]: bike and pedestrian facilities, public transportation, new roads or widening, and pavement condition, and much of our plan focuses on those priorities that were given by the public,” said Trasatt.

PennDOT also based the plan off of economic projections, comments from regional offices, stakeholder meetings and feedback from the industry.

The draft will be finalized in the spring. Anyone can access and comment on the plan at PA on Track until Dec. 15.
