Hillman Grant To Help Port Authority Narrow Search For New CEO

90.5 WESA

A grant from the Hillman Foundation will help the Port Authority of Allegheny County in its search for a new CEO.

The $100,000 gift will cover their $91,575 contract with Krauthamer & Associates of Maryland, plus a portion of $20,000 in expenses. Krauthamer recruited Allegheny County Airport CEO Christina Cassotis.

Port Authority Board Vice-Chair Jennifer Liptak, who heads the search committee, said Allegheny County’s transit system is the second largest in the state, and amid changes like planning a Bus Rapid Transit System, it’s critical to hire someone who understands transportation.

“But beyond that, we’re looking for someone dynamic, someone who can connect with the community but also has a great understanding and relationship with the business community, who doesn’t mind getting out, meeting people and trying to understand problems and solutions,” she said.

Advocates have called for greater transparency in the hiring process. Liptak said the search firm has solicited some feedback, but they will respect the candidates’ rights to privacy.

Former CEO Ellen McLean’s contract was not renewed earlier this year. She earned approximately $225,000 per year.

Former Allegheny Regional Asset District Director David Donahoe, who recently served as interim director for the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, has served as interim CEO since July 1.
