A number of new construction projects are coming to the Pittsburgh region in 2018, as well as the continuation of some 2017 projects.

A few major construction projects will take place on Pittsburgh's roads next year, according to PennDOT.

Construction will begin on the Interstate 279, known as the Parkway North, which will primarily mirror work that has been done southbound. That includes bridge preservation and cement patching.

"We're actually going to be extending the (Interstate) 579 that comes off the Veterans Bridge about a thousand feet, and we're going to be extending the Madison Avenue ramp about 2,000 feet to help with some of the merges onto 279," said Cheryl Moon-Sirianni, PennDOT District 11 Executive.

The entire project will cost about $88 million. In March, it was announced the project would go into 2019.

Moon-Sirianni said construction will also finish on the last portion of the  I-376, the Parkway West, by the Airport by the end of the year.

"We like to start this projects as early in March as we can," she said. "But if we still have a lot of snow or cold weather then it usually moves into April."

According to Moon-Sirianni, 48,000 cars use the road daily,

Paving will also take place on Route 28 from Butler County to Creighton.
