Port Authority of Allegheny County crews are working around the clock to restore light rail service on the Blue Line, said spokesperson Adam Brandolph. Heavy rains and flash flooding Wednesday night washed out track supports and damaged power lines.
“The storms really did a number throughout the South Hills and our rail service…[was] quite the casualty,” he said.
While officials expect Blue Line South Hills Village to re-open next week, the damage to the Library route was more extensive and is still being assessed.
Brandolph said the agency does not yet have a cost estimate for the work, but hopes to receive financial assistance from the state.
During the closure, shuttles will run every twenty minutes between Library and Station Square on Route 88. However, passengers who normally board at Denise, Bon Air and Boggs will have to catch a 51 or 51L bus to town, as those stations are on the other side of Route 51, said Brandolph.
