County takes input on North & South Park Projects

Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Parks Foundation will host two public input meetings to discuss improvement projects in North Park and South Park.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meetings to learn about the projects and to provide feedback and comments.

Christine Fulton, Executive Director of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation, said the needs for renovations in the parks is actually a good thing.

“Our county parks are community treasures, and the good news is they are very well used; and because they are so well used, they require ongoing maintenance and improvements. So these projects are geared toward those things. We hope to increase safety for users and encourage more people to get to the park!”

The North Park public meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, at the Rose Barn located on Pearce Mill Road. GAI Consultants will present schematic design options for the North Park Lake Trail Gateways and Municipal Row Path. An open forum and public discussion to gather input will follow the presentation.

The South Park public meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, at the South Park Home Economics Buildings. Pashek Associates will present the design options for the South Park Fairgrounds Oval improvements. An open forum and public discussion to gather input will follow the presentation.

Also on Wednesday, January 23, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald will attend the Friends of South Park monthly meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Inn to discuss the County and Parks Foundation’s plans to improve the South Park Fairgrounds Oval and to listen to feedback and comments from the Friends group.
