Perhaps you’ve heard of a gallery crawl, or even a bar crawl. Well, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is sponsoring a “sketch crawl” all throughout downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday. Just bring all the art supplies you need and show up at the Cultural Trust’s Education Center on 805 Liberty Avenue at 10:00 a.m. Accomplished sketch artist Rick Antolic will take participants to various locations throughout the Cultural District, helping with the sketches along the way. It may be cloudy, but it’s not expected to rain Saturday afternoon. Again, the downtown sketch crawl begins at 10:00 a.m. today at 805 Liberty Avenue.
See a free performance from some of the Pittsburgh area’s best pre-professional ballet dancers on Saturday night. The Pittsburgh Ballet School is putting on its spring performance at 7:00 in the evening in the August Wilson Center downtown. The school includes divisions for young children, students, pre-professionals, and adults. Saturday evening’s free event features the student-level and pre-professional ballerinas dancing to music from Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet, Swan Lake. The annual spring performance begins at 7:00 on Saturday night at the August Wilson Center on Liberty Avenue downtown.
For our friends in the north, the Jennings Environmental Center in Slippery Rock is sponsoring a Spring Wildflower Walk on Sunday. Tour guides will walk with you for about an hour and a half through the wilderness, pointing out the various blooms along the way. The guides will also provide a bit of history as well, explaining the traditional medicinal uses that the plants were thought to possess by both Native Americans and early European settlers. The free Spring Wildflower Walk begins Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Jennings Environmental Center in Slippery Rock.
