Negotiations between the city, the Penguins and the Hill District Community Development Corporation have resulted in plans to move forward with the development of the former Civic Arena Site. We’ll discover what could be next for the site with Hill District CDC President and CEO Marimba Milliones.
Milliones explains that the sticking point for negotiations had been design issues that her organization felt were not being addressed. Reservations for affordable housing were especially important to the Hill District CDC.
The current agreement uses the CDC’s minimum guideline for affordable housing: 20%. Citing high rents at the redeveloped Bakery Square in Larimer, Milliones stresses that the housing question is crucial for the redevelopment of the Lower Hill.
Regardless of the specific issue or organization involved, Milliones emphasizes, the Hill District CDC’s fundamental interest is in the needs of Hill residents. “It has to be done synergistically,” Milliones explains.
