AP File

Former first lady Michelle Obama will headline the 14th annual Pennsylvania Conference for Women, which kicks off Tuesday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

It's expected to draw a record 12,000 people from throughout the region.

It will be one of Obama's first public appearance since she left the White House, where she served from 2009 to 2017. During that time, she launched four key initiatives: "Let's Move!" to address childhood obesity; "Joining Forces" to support veterans and their families; "Reach Higher" to help inspire young people to seek higher education; and "Let Girls Learn" to urge girls all over the world to go to school.

Obama will be the lunchtime keynote speaker. She will be interviewed by television producer and writer Shonda Rhimes, best known for her hit shows "Scandal," "How to Get Away With Murder," and "Grey's Anatomy."

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney will be the keynote speaker for the morning session.

The nonpartisan conference offers a full day of networking and professional development through breakout sessions led by experts in business, philanthropy, leadership, and finance. This year's theme is "The Power of Us: Amplify Your Voice."
